Thankful Thursday

This week I am thankful for so many thing.  This has been a hard week for me.  Lots of things going on and emotions running high.  But, even through all of that I have found things to be thankful for.

Today is my birthday and that is not the best day for me.  For some reason my birthday seems to always become one of the worst days of the year for me.  Everything seems to go wrong.  I have tried many times to skip this day in the year, but it never works.  I have never really had a great birthday that I can remember other than my birthdays as a kid.  I would have a normal kids birthday part.  As I got older It just went down hill somehow.

I am thankful though.  I am thankful that I have my family here with me.  Hubby may be working, but he is home every day.  I don't have to worry about him in another country fighting or over the road working.  I have Will with me, even though he thinks this is the day of the year to be as bad as he can possibly be.  My friends and my family call me to wish me a happy birthday every year, and so I never get forgotten.  My health is still good and my funds may be low, but I still have a house to live in and food on the table.  None of the bill collectors have turned anything off and I even got $20.00 from my father-in-law to go eat out.  (We went to McDonald's.  It was a treat for us. LOL)

I am also thankful for this blog.  It does keep me sane sometimes.  I have a place to go and share my feelings and show what I am doing in my life.  I have blogger friends that I keep up with who keep up with me.  I love giveaways and tend to win a few here and there.  I also love to check out other blogs and get new ideas.  So, thankful is a great feeling for today!  I hope everyone has a great day.

Hop on over to Grace Alone and link up with what you are thankful for.

Welcome The Beetle Bug

Have you seen those gas prices?  They are ridiculous!!!

I know they are higher in some areas than others.  Here they are currently about $3.41.  We are one of the places that has the lower gas prices.  In some states I have heard it is over $4.00 a gallon.  WOW!

We where struggling with gas prices.  Hubby figured he was paying $17.00 a day to go to work and come home.  That equalled to $400.00 a month in gas just for him.  That was not working for us at all.  So, Hubby decided it was time for a change.

He has all ways been a fan of the Volkswagen Beetles.  He like the old models and the new, but never thought he could fit in the new ones.  (He is over 6 feet tall and is just a big guy!)  He recently got to sit in one and found out he more than fit.  After that it was all he could think of.  He already liked them and the big bonus was that they can get 40+ miles to the gallon!

He was willing to trade in his truck (A Big Surprise!) for a beetle.  We started looking for one in our price range (used) right away.  Thursday afternoon we bought him his beetle.  It is an 05 with about 30,000 miles.  It is in perfect shape and looks brand spanking new!  It also has all those extras we didn't intend to get, but it came with the right price.  He has a convertible top, it's a turbo, it has a fancy sound system, leather seats that heat up,  mirrors that heat up, and so much more.  He is finding new things every time he gets in it (or reads the manual). LOL.

So, we embraced the beetle and Hubby is loving every minute of it!  What are the gas prices where you live?  What do you think about getting a better fuel efficient car?

Meet Me On Monday!

Today's questions are:

1. Crunchy or soft tacos?  I like soft tacos, but when I make them at home (which is the majority of the time) I like to make myself a taco salad!

2. Do you scrapbook?  I have done a lot of scrapbooks, but at the moment the unfinished ones are on the back burner.  I just haven't had the time to get to them.  I do plan on doing those soon though!

3. Do you take any daily medications?  Not really.  I do take my daily vitamins and my allergy meds can sometimes feel like a daily medication.

4. What is your favorite sound?  I like a lot of different sounds.  I guess it depends on my mood.  Sometimes I like the sound of rain on the roof and sometimes I like the sound of my family having a good time.  Other times I just like the quite of a restful moment.  I am also a person who loves the sound of nature outside.

5. Where were you born?  I was born in a hospital.  My birth mother was in labor for 3 days before they realized she had broken her tail bone as a child and that's why I couldn't come out.  They had to re-break it for me to be born.

Our Garden Surprise!

This week started with a bit of gardening.  I tilled up my garden for the first time this year.  It was an exciting time.

I don't know if you remember, so I will tell you the story of my carrots I planted last year again.  I had planted all kinds of yummy things in my garden and they all did very well, except the carrots.  Out of an entire row of carrots, only one looked like it sprouted and started to grow.  I babied and put all my tender love and care into that carrot.  Later, when we thought it may be time to pick my precious carrot, Hubby pulled it up to find that I had been babying a weed all that time.  I was so let down, but at the same time we had a really good laugh about it.

Monday, I tilled the garden and don't you know I found a carrot!  Yes!  A Carrot!  I really did grow one.  (I just didn't know it!)  If you think a cut up carrot full of mud and dirt stoped my happiness you are wrong.  I hopped around and yelled for Will to come and see!  He was as excited as I was.  He ran to the house with the pieces of carrot.  I thought he was going to save them to show Daddy, but again, I was wrong.

He came running back with a clean piece.  He had washed it and was happily nibbling on it.  It was a site to see.  The two of us standing in the middle of a tilled up garden enjoying the surprise it held for us.  Our very first carrot!  Hubby couldn't believe it when he saw our carrot and heard our story.  The best part was his face when he though I let Will eat a mud covered carrot! LOL!  I washed the other pieces and took a picture with my phone for you to see!

After we finished the garden, I had to wash all the mud off the tiller and Will enjoyed this part just as much.  With all the mud and water in the yard, he decided to ride his bike through it.  (This is one of his favorite pass times after it rains too!)  Here is a picture of his clothes after he was done!

You will not find a happier little boy!

Meet Me On Monday!

Meet Me On Monday is hosted by Java over at Never Growing Old.  Hop on over and join us!

Today's questions are:

1. What jewelry do you wear 24/7?  Now I only wear my wedding rings 24/7, but when I was younger you would never see me without a St Christopher Meddle and a cross.  I wore those until they broke and then just couldn't find one I liked to replace them.

2.  Do you twirl your spaghetti or cut it?  I'm a twirler!  I cut my son's and my Husband cuts his, but I like to twirl.

3.  How many siblings do you have?  I have one sibling who is almost 5 years younger than I am.

4. Were you named after anyone?  Ha! Ha! Ha!  My name is so out there that I would feel sorry for anyone who had to share it with me.  I have made my peace with it though.  My name is Joshlin Renea.  Every part of that is miss spelled and miss pronounced.  Most of my friends call me Josh.  For the longest time Hubby's co-workers thought he was gay.  He always talked about going home to Josh and how Josh cooked such 'n such last night.  LOL!  They where shocked to meet me! I'm very much a woman!

5.  Coke or Pepsi?  Ummm....NO!  I like my Dr. Pepper!  I have a little addiction where I have to have at least one a day.  Coke and Pepsi just don't trip my trigger!

My Answers:

Thankful Thursday

Thankful Thursday is hosted this month by Iris over at Grace Alone.  Hop on over and join us!

This week I had so many things pop into my mind that I was thankful for.  So I decided to make a list of a few of them.

I am thankful for:

The farmers I see in the fields that are growing the food we need.

The way God provides for us.

That our vehicles are in working order and that the gas prices haven't reached a point that is totally crippling us, even though it has put a dent in our finances.

That we have food on the table and a bed to sleep in every night.

The small things Hubby does for me that make me feel special.  (One thing he did was washed the dishes for me one day this week.)

For friends who help each other out.

And many many more!!!

Happy Thankful Thursday Everyone!

Thankful Thursday

Today I am thankful for our differences.  Everyone is different.  We have big differences, like our nationalities and cultures.  Our differences even go all the way to our religious beliefs.  We also have smaller differences, like our taste in decorating and color preferences.

With all these differences we have learned to get along.  We have even learned form one another.  The one think I have learned is that God made us all and loves us all.  In John, 13:34 Jesus said  "I give you a new commandment: love one another. As I have loved you, so you also should love one another."

This is something that I find hard to do at times.  I try to get along with everyone, but do I really love everyone?  That is something for me to work on.  But, I am thankful everyone is different because if everyone was easy to love we wouldn't need this commandment.  It's the ones that make it hard to love them, that really need our love the most.

Thankful Thursday is hosted by Iris at Grace Alone.  Come on over, join us, and share what you are thankful for on this beautiful Thursday!

Mardi Gras!

Mardi Gras is a great celebration in Louisiana.  Most people think of New Orleans when they think of Mardi Gras, but the truth is, the entire state celebrates it.  Each area celebrates a little differently though.

New Orleans is known for the drunken people falling in the streets and showing their body parts for beads.  Thankfully the rest of the state is a little different.  Here in our local small towns we have the Mardi Gras men and women dress up and jump on horses.  They travel the back roads of the town and chase a chicken in the country fields.  They do drink and play loud cajun music, but you will see no nakedness or destruction of private property.

Lake Charles celebrates with traditional pirates and buccaneers.  Sunday we attended the Children's day.  They had a big party for the kids that taught them about the traditions of Mardi Gras to our area.  We had cajun music, traditional food, and lots of Mardi Gras Revelers to play with the kids.  A Carnival was there to help us celebrate and of course a big parade.  This years Children's Parade was the biggest one yet.

All towns have parades!  They are the biggest part of Mardi Gras!  Some towns have one and then some towns have many back to back for 12 days!  They all through beads, candy, and cups.  This year Pepsi was even giving out bottles of Pepsi Max in the Children's Parade.  How cool is that!  Will even got a Moon Pie!  I wish I had taken pictures to show, but we where a little busy.Lake Charles also had one of the only, if not the only, boat parade.  They line up at night and are filled with lights!  They also have Marid Gras Balls.  They are big dances with Kings and Queens in amazing dresses and feathers!

On Mardi Gras the traditional dish is Gumbo.  That is why they chase the chicken.  To put him in the gumbo. LOL!   After the Gumbo is the traditional King Cake.  I made my own this year!

Happy Mardi Gras Everyone!  And I expect to see you all in church Wednesday to get your ashes!  Don't forget....No Meat Wednesday or Every Friday until Easter!!!!

Meet Me On Monday!

Welcome to another great Meet Me On Monday!  The day when you get to learn a little more about me and see exactly why I am as crazy as I am!  We are hosted by Java over at Never Growing Old.  Hop on over and join us today, so that we can see exactly why you are crazy too!

Today's questions are:

1.  What is your favorite way to eat potatoes?  I like potatoes almost any way!  I like them in a potatoes soup, mashed potatoes, backed potatoes, and fried potatoes!  The only way I can think of that I don't like them is mashed with the skin left on them.  To me that seems like you where to lazy to pill them.  I hate that!

2.  What was the last package that was delivered to your house?  Well, since I'm addicted to giveaways, I always seem to be getting something delivered.  The last thing I got from my regular mail lady (USPS) was yesterday! It was these beautiful handmade earrings from Older Mommy, Still Yummy

3.  What is your favorite scent that you love to smell?  Of course I like the smell of anything baked!  But, I also love the smell of fresh cut grass.  I have learned that they are now bottling this smell and putting it into candles! I can't wait to get my hands on one!!!!

4.  Do you smoke?  NO! I don't like the way it smells, makes you look, or spending money on anything so bad for you.  Now, hubby does smoke, but not inside or close to me.  He has tried to kick this bad habit before, and will try again!

5.  Are your parents married or divorced?  My parents and Hubby's parents are both divorced.  Everyone else on my side of the family is still married though.  All my Aunts and Uncles are still married and loving it.  Both our Grandparent's where married for over 50 years!

Thankful Thrusday

This week I am thankful for the break all Mommy's need once in a while.  I found that I needed this break last week.  I was getting grouchy and hard to live with.

Hubby stepped up and allowed me to go do the bimonthly grocery shopping all alone.  He kept Will for about 2 or 3 hours.  I got a nice little car ride with no questions.  ( I have been getting tired of the constant questions of if I'm doing the speed limit and going the correct way by a 4 year old!)  I then got to go through two stores with no child wanting to go see the fish or go through the toy section promising he wouldn't ask for anything!  I was able to do my shopping with only my own thoughts for company.  It was so glorious!

I forget sometimes, that he is attached to me 24/7.  Very rarely do we get a sitter (one of our parents).  It is even rarer that he spends the night away.  I can literaly count on my fingers the amount of times I have been without him.  What am I going to do next year when he starts school.  Some say I will go crazy with nothing to do.  I say to them....I have a plan.  Hubby and I have already started planing away our free time.  Gym memberships, romantic lunches with p.b.&j. sandwiches (just the two of us), watching movies without any interruptions, and sitting on the porch talking!  I'm sure there will be days when I go crazy with nothing to do.  Those will be the days I will throw myself into house cleaning.

But for now, I am just thankful for those few hours.  I love my son, but need some alone time sometimes.  And no, trying to take a bath while my 4 year old fights with the dog, who is trying to get her 5 foot long 2 1/2 foot high body under the door doesn't count. LOL!

This month Thankful Thursday is hosted by Grace Alone.  Hop on over and join us by telling us what you are thankful on this blessed Thursday!

Tweet! Tweet!

I attended my first Twitter Party last night!  I have been seeing Twitter Parties here and there and always wondered what they where all about.  I have seen some where they offer "door prizes" and such, but never quite knew how they worked.

Yesterday I got an invitation from MyBlogSpark to the Big G "Girls´ Night Out" Twitter Party.  I decided to give it a go.  I RSVPed and all.  The party was going to be about retro breakfast memories in honor of the retro cereal packages the Big G cereal company is releasing, available exclusively at Target stores now while supplies last.

The packages include Cheerios® (1956), Lucky Charms® (1989), Honey Nut Cheerios® (1984), Trix® (1968), and Cinnamon Toast Crunch® (1984).  Each box is so retro and so cool!

When I got to the party I saw that they had their very own Custom Tweetgrid!  I have never even heard of a Tweetgrid.  It was so crazy.  You had three columns of tweets all going at the same time.  Wow it was hard to keep up with.  It seemed like they had a hundred conversations going on at once.  I lasted through over an hour of the party.  I answered questions and had a few conversations, but then Hubby needed the computer and I took that as a blessed break.  I got back on right as they finished up.  The only thing I was a big confused about was that no prizes where given out.  They did have a giveaway you had to enter on their site, but that was it.

I guess good conversation and sharing memories of childhood where what they where going for.  I did enjoy it.  I will be attending more Twitter Parties in the future.  I just have to figure them out first. LOL!  I did end up getting about 4 new Twitter followers though.  I'm not to sure that is because of the party or the fact that they just saw me tweeting though.

Have you ever been to a Twitter Party?  Can you give me any advice or insight of how it all works?  I would greatly appreciate it!

Seeds!

It's almost gardening season and you know what that means!  Seeds!  I love to plant my garden.  Some people start buy plants already started for their garden, but not me!  I like to plant seeds in cups and then when they are bigger, plant them in my garden.

This saves me lots of money, and gives Will a lesson in how things grow.  I have been doing it this way for many years.  I never had a real garden until last year.  Hubby surprised me with one for our anniversary.  Before that I had just grew a few things in pots.

This year Will and I started two different kinds of tomatoes, bell peppers, banana peppers, and carrots.  (We didn't do to well with carrots last year, and I'm not having high hopes about them this year.)  In a few months we will also start some more peppers and zucchini.  I also have some strawberry plants I am itching to plant.

I can't wait until I can really get into my garden this year.  It makes me feel so good to grow my own things.  I like feeling the dirt and tending the plants.  It makes me feel that much closer to God!  And the feeling you get when you are harvesting your own vegetables is second to none!
