Once again it's Thursday, and so I am sharing with all of you how thankful I am. This week's Thankful Thursday is hosted by Iris at Grace Alone. Run over and visit her some time. She has a wonderful blog and is a beautiful soul. Share your thankful heart with us and link up!
Today I am thankful for food. There are many times when I wonder why we need food to survive. Sometimes food causes more problems than it's worth. It can mess with your sugar when you already have problems controlling it. It can cause you to gain extra weight with can lead to health problems.
Yet, living in the south, I feel sometimes like food is a blessing. God made us to need to eat to survive, and in the south that means coming together and spending time enjoying others. We have traditions of cooking tons of food just to have others come over and visit. There has never been a time when I visited someone and was not offered something to eat or drink. My friends and family spend every holiday and family get together around food. When an event is talked about, the first thing discussed is what kind of food will or should be served.
So, today I am thankful for food. It has the ability of drawing people together and making us closer. Would we still do all this with out food? Some of it we would, but how different our date nights and family get togethers would be with out it. No going out to dinner, no turkey for Thanksgiving, no ham for Christmas, no popcorn at the movies, no cotton candy at the fair. We would miss so much! Like this apple pie I made last night. And it is so goooooood. I love homemade apple pie! It's a bit messy looking, but if you ask me, the best food is the messiest food.
I love food too! :) It's great having get family and friends over and having lots of food!! :) What part of the South are you in? Have a great day!
ReplyDeleteYes, getting together over food is a great way to fellowship! (I'm from the South, too!)
